I like seeing the Dock on the bottom of my screen. For one thing, it tells me at a glance which applications are running. It is also a quick launcher for the applications that I use the most like Safari, Mail and iPhoto.

Some people, however, prefer to have the Dock out of their way.

You can hide the Dock so it is only visible when you move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen.

To hide the Dock:

  • Right-click the on the vertical divider line (I think it looks like an airport runway) that separates your Trash and Stacks from your application icons. You will get a pop up menu with options. Turn Hiding On is the top option.
While you are working with that pop up menu, explore the other options that the Dock has to offer such as moving it to other sides of the screen and magnification.
