On April 7, 2009, Apple made a major pricing change for music in the iTunes Store.
Previously, all music tracks were available for US$0.99 regardless of the age of the track. Under the new tiered pricing structure, new tracks are US$1.29, tracks older than six years go down to US$0.69 and the rest stay at US$0.99.
This new pricing was part of the deal that Apple made with the record labels to move the entire iTunes music catalog to iTunes Plus.
NOTE: As I am writing this on April 7 2009, I see that most new tracks have indeed gone up in price to $US1.29. However, I am not noticing any older tracks that have gone down to $US0.69. Hopefully, Apple is still in transition on their price changes.
