There is only so much space on your Mac screen, so when you have multiple
applications
open, they stack on top of each other. Exposé is a great tool for sorting through all those overlapping windows, but if you just want to get rid of some of the clutter, Hide and Minimize are the tools to use.
Hide and Minimize are similar in concept to the Minimize function in Windows, but since the Dock works somewhat differently from the Windows Task Bar, Mac Hide and Minimize work differently.
Hide is activated by
Command-H
. It hides all the windows of an application. The application stays active in the Dock. To make the application visible again, click on its Dock icon.
Minimize works on a window by window basis. To minimize a window, click the
yellow minimize blob
at the top left of most windows. The window will slide down onto the Dock and take up residence between the Stacks folders and theTrash. A small badge on the icon shows what application the minimized window belongs to. Clicking the icon on the Dock will slide the window back up into place.
