QuickTime isn't an application that you open and do work in. Rather, it opens as needed to play video clips that you have clicked on. Take, for example, video clips from your digital camera in iPhoto, iPhoto is unable to play video so it passes the task on to QuickTime. Double clicking a video clip in iPhoto opens QuickTime and Quicktime play it in its own window.
To get QuickTime to play your video clip in full screen, choose View / Enter Full Screen from the menu bar or choose
Commmand-F.
Once you are in full screen, moving the mouse brings up a
bezel
with movie controls. Hitting the Esc key takes you out of full screen.
Note that this behavior is very similar to iTunes which will also play video full screen if you do a Command-F. You can set iTunes to always play in full screen, but this option does not exist in QuickTime.
