When editing photos in iPhoto, there is an Enhance tool and its icon is a magic wand. The wand icon makes sense because when you use the Enhance tool, iPhoto looks at your photo and "magically" makes changes to improve the look of the photo. The Enhance tool generally does a good job, but there is a way to fine tune its results for an even better looking photo.
After you have used the Enhance tool on a photo, Click the Adjust tool on the bottom toolbar. This will open the Adjust panel. The position of the slider controls show you the "magic" that then Enhance tool did.
You might not know the meaning of all the sliders, but you can experiment with moving the sliders slightly to tweak the Enhancement tool's enhancements. As you move the sliders, iPhoto shows you the changes in real time.
If you don't like the result of one of your tweaks, you can use Undo (Command-Z or from the Edit Menu) to set it back. If you feel like you have really messed up the look of the photo, click the Reset button on the bottom of the Adjust Panel and all of the controls will move back to where they were before you used the Enhance tool.
Even tiny changes in the slider controls can make all the difference to get your photo to just that perfect look.
