The Mac is generally known for its simple, easy to use interface. Occasionally, though, there are some bumps in the road.
One such "bump" is the default setting of the print dialog. It has been simplified to the point where about all you can do is select the printer and whether you want to print or preview your document.
MIssing are the most basic controls like how many copies to make and which pages to print. In addition, depending on the application and the print driver, there are a whole host of other useful setting which are missing.
One user I talked to said she went to the print menu once for each copy that she needed. She knew there had to be a better way.
There is. All new Mac applications come with the print dialog collapsed, showing only those few options. It is very easy to expand the dialog, but it is not obvious.
To the right of the printer name, there is a blue button with a downward facing arrow in it. Click on that button and a whole world of printer options appears for you. Like I said before, what you see depends on the application you are in and the printer driver you have, but with a little experimentation you can uncover ways to print that you never thought possible.
