When iPhoto has completed importing photos from your camera, it asks if you would like to delete the photos from your camera. I don't like to do this because I want to be able to look at iPhoto and make sure all the photos imported properly before deleting them from the camera.
You can delete the photos on your camera directly from the camera, but depending on the model of the camera, this may be an easy or time-consuming task. iDevices, for example, make you delete photos one at a time— a time-consuming process if you have taken dozens of photos.
I have written several times about Image Capture as the app that no one knows about but has many helpful features. One such feature it the ability to delete photos directly from your camera.
Here's how to delete photos directly from your camera:
Open Image Capture from your Apps folder or Launch Pad.
Make sure your camera is plugged in to a USB port on your Mac. The images will load in Image Capture.
To select all the photos on your camera, hit Command-A. If you only want to delete certain images, Shift-click or Command-click on the photos you want to delete.
Click the red "do not enter" icon on the bottom if the Image Capture window.
Note that when you delete photos from your camera, they do not do into the Trash— they are deleted immediately.
The Backup Plan is available exclusively on Amazon in Kindle format. A Kindle device is not required to read the ebook. Kindle apps are available for Macs, PCs and mobile devices.
