When you are sending email to a list of people, it is usually better to put the addresses in the BCC: address field rather than the TO: address field.

Why would you want to do that? If you put all of the addresses of the people you are sending to in the TO: field, then everyone will be able to see the email addresses of everyone you sent to. If you put all the addresses in the BCC: field, then your recipients will only see their own email address. It is a form of polite privacy to keep recipients from seeing your entire email list. You never know how far your email message will be forwarded. I've seen messages (funny ones, for example) forwarded ten or twenty times, each time adding another long list of email addresses. It isn't hard to imagine what a spammer would do if he caught a hold of that list of addresses! Besides spam, some people just prefer to keep their email addresses private.

To turn on BCC for a Mail message, select it from the View menu.

PS: If you aren't sure what BCC means, read more here.
